Back and Forward – An exhibition by Unwell Bunny

Unwell Bunny

OPENING FRIDAY FEB 8th – 6-9pm
Unwell Bunny / Ed Bechervaise presents a retrospective back catalog of older and recent work in ‘back and forward’ showing a progression from street to gallery setting over a number of years.

Emerging from the Adelaide 90’s graffiti, Ed has chipped away making a name for himself in the urban contemporary art scene in Melbourne and further abroad showing work in Amsterdam, New York and Paris.

Ed studied studio arts in Adelaide and graphic and conceptual study in Melbourne. Over the years of practice his work has moved into a figurative and abstract sensibility, observing and deconstructing still life, figurative and facial portraiture, landscapes, and subconscious memory. Through bold striking and juxtaposing colour, Ed captures his observations with emotive feeling, creating compositions that generate a sense of nostalgia, and fluid memory.

In this body of work Ed hopes to recreate these memories through installation, and spacial curation. Showing works from multiple themed shows over the years, that link together to become one longer broader narrative. Ed demonstrates influence, observation, and change through time. A collection of experiences that are a summery of seeing the world through fragments of passion about place, person, environment, and feeling.

Unwell Bunny – The Mountains We Climb

Ed Bechervaise –
Unwell Bunny 2018

The mountains we climb is just as much about
self exploration, as it is about Japan.

Ed’s work has always explored two sides of the human experience, The moment in time, and the effect and the memory of it, the re interpretation and the re processing of a glimpse..

That’s exactly what Ed does in exploring Japan, and its sensations. Its layers of feeling, through the chaos of
Tokyo to the stillness of Kanazawa hills.

Each image is broken down into fragments, with slabs of colour, texture and tone, that symbolise the experience, weather by night or day, dusk or after dawn. This is a time capsule of travel, but also of the struggle and exploration each of us go through in growing as people and evolving beyond what we know.

The mountains we climb is about pushing limits of understanding. Exploring that place that brings discomfort, pushing the elements of your processing ability. For Ed he has done just this with his exploration of abstraction, and re interpretation.
